Tencent Holdings' WeChat denies storing user chats

The popular messaging App company in china managed by Tencent Holdings has posted on its social media platform that what the top businessman said about the company monitoring everyone's account is not true.

Tencent Holdings clearly stated that
WeChat does not store any users' chat history. That is only stored in users' mobiles, computers and other terminals. WeChat will not use any content from user chats for big data analysis. Because of WeChat's technical model that does not store or analyse user chats, the rumour that 'we are watching your WeChat everyday' is pure misunderstanding.

The owner of the Volvo car brand and chairman of Geely Holdings, Li Shufu, was quoted to have said on monday in Chinese media that the Tencent Holdings' chairman, Ma Huateng "must be watching all our WeChats every day."

It is a norm in China for social media platforms to censor public posts deemed "illegal" by the communist party. And the user's information can only be disclosed according to WeChat's privacy policy if a government authority, law enforcement agency or similar body request for it.
