How to stop websites from showing push notifications in Browsers



Browsing the internet or checking the Updates on your favorite websites is educative and maybe fun depending on the contents of the websites but one of the most annoying and tiring part of sites in recent times is the appearance of a slide like notification telling you to either allow or block notifications from that particular website. 


You may be trying to understand what a particular page is saying and what you will immediately see on your screen is a push notification telling you to do some certain things and when this happens, your attention would be cut off from what you are reading on the page, and sometimes you may lose interest reading it.

But with the following settings depending on the type of browser, you will stop seeing the push notifications not minding the site you log on to.

Mozilla Firefox


Putting a stop to websites push notifications while using the Mozilla Firefox is quite easy and direct without hiccups. Open your Mozilla Firefox browser, in the search bar type in about:config and hit the Enter key. The next page that will appear on your screen will read something like a warning, that “Changing these advanced settings can be harmful to the stability, security……..” Don’t be agitated by the warnings, just follow the guide and all will be fine.

Click “I accept the risk!” or in some Mozilla Firefox versions, you will see “I’ll be Careful, I promise!

Next is to type “notifications” into the search box>>double-click the “dom.webnotifications.enabled” option that appears to change the setting to “false”, which means web notifications will be disabled in Firefox.

In case you decide to start seeing push notifications in the future, follow the above procedures and double-click the “dom.webnotifications.enabled” option to set it to “true” once again.

Apple Safari


Safari Browser has features embedded in it that can make you not to see push notifications on selected websites you log on to.

To do this, click Safari > Preferences, Select the “Websites” tab at the top of the window and click “Notifications” in the sidebar. Right at the bottom of the browser, uncheck the “Allow websites to ask for permission to send push notifications” box.

After doing the above, you will still be receiving notifications from the websites you have given permission. There is also a section where you can see and manage the list of websites with permissions to send notifications in this window.

You can go back to your Safari Browser’s settings and re-enable web notifications in the future if you wish to receive websites notifications.

Google Chrome


This popular browser is also equipped with a feature that can disable push notifications.

To stop notifications in Google chrome browser, click the menu button and select “Settings”>> Click the “Advanced” link at the bottom of the Settings page and then click the “Content Settings” button under Privacy and security.

Next is to click the “Notifications”>>toggle off the slider at the top of the page so that it reads “Blocked” instead of “Ask before sending (recommended)”.

Just like Safari Browser, you will also receive notifications from websites you have given permission.

 Scroll down and you will see a list of websites that you have given permission to send you notifications under “Allow”.
